Velcade Velcade is a type pf medicines, called a proteasome inhibitor. It is the only proteasome inhibitor that the FDA has approved. Velcade is approved to treat patients with multiple myeloma. Velcade is also approved to treat patients with mantle cell lymphoma who have received at least 1 prior therapy.

Velcade was the first medicine in more than 10 years approved by the FDA for the treatment of patients with multiple myeloma. Multiple myeloma is a cancer of plasma cells, a particular type of cell found in the marrow of your bones. Multiple myeloma causes the bone marrow to produce too many abnormal plasma cells.
About 20,000 people are diagnosed with multiple myeloma every year in the United States, making it the second most common type of blood cancer.

Mantle cell lymphoma is a cancer of a particular type of cell called a lymphocyte. About 3,500 people are diagnosed with the disease each year in the United States.
